Arkansas Weekend

What an amazing weekend of shooting. There is never a way to compare matches because of differences in conditions but this was the best shooting I have ever witnessed. Richard Gorham was knocking them down at about 2330 Agg finishes for the first 4 shoots under pretty good conditions. Last night, we shot through a horrible storm with 4 targets shot in at least 50mph swirling, gusting winds which killed his agg to about 2310 and Dustin Allen pulled off the win. I don't have a match sheet with me to give the exact scores. It was a deep field with a lot of great shooters from out of town. Noah was the only jr but shot some awesome scores and finished 6th overall in the AR State Tourney. He got in 18 ARA cards so we are looking forward to seeing him back to complete what will probably be the Jr ARA stat line championship. He probably won the ARA Jr Tourney last night too. You just had to be there!!!

Some other shooters of distinction:
Tom Rippey shot a 2450 thursday night that took a jury of about 6 before they could decide that it wouldn't plug 2500..real close..
Fred Leeds flew in from Utah and represented the west very well with 3rd and 4th place finishes in several of the matches

edit: Anybody wanting any of this, we shoot tommorow night in Tulsa 8>)

It was great shooting with everyone at Darrel Barnes range.
Congratulations to Richard Gorham and Dustin Allen for some great shooting.

Hey Tom what do you think about what Scotty was trying to pull??

Another little factoid from last weekend:
Noah Johns shot 18 cards, 5 of which were 2300 or higher, 2 of which were 2400.
He agged 2086.67
2176.67
2266.67
2137.5
for the four shoots he shot in.

It was a great weekend in AR. Darrel runs a fine match.

Noah Johns that Don spoke of is Bruce Doster's grandson. He is 10-years-old, and he is quite the shooter. He is a fine young man, and he is exactly what this sport needs.

I have some pics I will post later, let me get caught up on shipping first.

good shooting...

I've attended Darrel's range for several years now and I gotta say... there were some great scores shot there over the holiday weekend. When the storm blew in, there was very little drop in the scores which just goes to show that these guys know what they're doing. Very impressive.

As for what Scotty was trying to "pull"... there is no need to beat a dead horse. For the people that know what truely happened, they know it was just a BIG MISUNDERSTANDING that has been resolved. As for those that don't know the true events of what happened, you can assume what you want. I'm sure no one will lose any sleep over what others THINK.

Hope everyone has a B-E-A-U-tiful day!! :D

Thank you

Darrel put on a fine shoot!! The targets were scored as consistently as any I've seen. I personally plugged and checked each of my targets and if blue wasn't seen then it was out.(as it should be) The food was second to none that I've had at a shoot. Darrel's wife cooked great meals finishing with no less than four desserts.
How Darrel can be so skinny with a wife that cooks like she does; shows he must have the metabolism of a humming bird.
It was nice to meet many new shooters. On thursday I agged 2275 and took fourth place, on friday 2241 got me seventh, and on saturday in the state shoot agged 2225 good for third place. This was some of the toughest competition competition I've faced.
Once again thanks for the great hospitality, Fred Leeds
