Are the older Leupold M8 scopes OK for benchrest ??

I see these scopes for sale from time to time for what I consider not much money for a Leupold. Are there any problems associated with them? Are the crosshairs small enough for BR shooting at 50 yds?? Would you buy one or spend a little more for a new model?

Info appreciated.

4X Power is not BR

I think you would be happier with a 36X Weaver. 4X is not enough power to compete against newer scopes of higher power.

Sorry, I did not include enough information. The scopes I've seen are 24x. The prices have been from $250 to $375. One person said he thinks his scope was made in the early 70's.

Only One I was familuar with

I had a 4X, and that's what I was talking about. For BR, a 36X beat a 24X more times than not

Leupold M8 36X

I have an M8- 36 power on a 243win since 1986. Fine cross hairs that should work well at 50 yards, tho i never tried it that close. Came with a shade & target knobs. No problems so far. Still have box, papers & instructions. Seen one just like mine, sold this year on Gunbroker for $525 plus shipping & insurance. I am sure the M8 is outdated by now, but at half the price of new, might be a good buy? Mine was for sale on classifieds here early this year for $525. No one seemed interested.
