Are the followers the same for Left hand actions

I have a customers lefthanded Stiller Predator action. It is chambered in 300WSM. The Bottom metal is PT&G and the mag box, spring and follower are Wyatt's. My question is whether there is a difference in the follower if the action is left handed? Curtis at Stillers shop could not tell me and Kevin Wyatt is in Alaska hunting. There is no difference in a Remington factory follower but the Wyatt follower is different, it is bult up on the left side.

Your thoughts and suggestions.

Is this a trick question?

I've never heard of a left handed follower and the rails are the same on either side of the action so I don't think the cartridge would know the difference.

It definitely feels different when you are putting the cartridge in the mag. I had to use an AR15 mag follower when I built my 6.8 Savage. The first cartridge sits on the opposite side from a factory RH follower and it feels weird to me :)

Maybe lefties are just used to it.

Nat -- spoken like a true "righty" A right handed follower in a left hand gun can be a major PIA for a left handed shooter. It's not a matter of the cartridge knowing the difference - it's the broken finger nails and skinned knuckles when a lefty tries to snap a round into the "wierd" side of the magazine caused by the mismatched follower.
Over the years I've made a bunch of "left" followers.

I am not smart enough to be a smart ass.. and no tricks..

Dave:

The follower on this Wyatt box is not like that of one found in a Remington. I could see this one being made for a right handed opening and a mirrored copy made for a left handed opening. Since I have never had this problem before I would say that it is a newbe thing.

Maybe I'll drive it by your shop Dave when I am in Charlotte next week.
Then you will know I am not just making this up.

Kevin Wyatt wil be back from Alaska next week and he can answer my question.

I just looked at a RH & LH LA700, they're so close that there might as well be no difference.

This finally got the better of me

So I went and checked the lefthand and right hand rifles I have and this is what I found

Mauser98/Interarms l/h/Mini Mauser l/h - follower is the same for l/h and r/h
Savage 110 l/h and r/h (detachable mag) - follower for r/h and l/h is the same
Savage blind magazine (l/h only checked) - follower is the same as the detachable magazine
Remington 700 l/h and r/h long actions - magazine follower is the same for both
Sako 591 l/h and L57 r/h - magazine follower is the same.

I also checked a Brno (r/h) and Jongmans (l/h). All the rifles I checked the followers would stack the cases in the same order in the magazine.

To me it looks like these parts are common to a l/h and r/h rifle which would make sense.

Hope this helps..............Ian

There is not right and left follower for Wyatt Box

I got an e-mail from Kevin Wyatt fresh from the deep bush of Alaska. He tells me that the box may have to be tightened up or a different box used.

Don't let anyone say Kevin does not service his customers. He e-mailed me as soon as he was in the electronic world. I hate he did not get his caribou but I know he enjoyed the fishing and scenery. One of his party did take a nice Girzzly.

Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. If you have not been there you need to go.

Nat,
You could always fabricate one custom LH follower for your customer.

Mother Nature is knocking on the door early this year,I do believe.
