Just prior to bullet acceleration do you think that gas could cut a bullet as it bypasses around the ogive and into the open barrel? How about as the bullet exits the muzzle as we know that gas velocity is much greater than that of the bullet?
If so, then using 0 standoff and a muzzle break should show benefit.
