Hi All,

So does anyone have, or know, the proper neck turning length for the Lapua 220 Russian brass after it is expanded to .243 when you are making the fire forming loads for a Sako 6mm PPC USA throat? I suppose the same question could be asked of what the max case length is in that throat when checking your reloaded brass.. I haven't had time to have my chamber foam molded to know for sure, just thought I could get some info from those who know to put me in the right direction.

I'm new here, did a little introduction thread in another area.. Wasn't sure where to start. :)

6mm PPC USA Trim Length

Well, I just measured five brand new Silver State Armory 6mm PPC USA cases and the unsized lengths ran 1.508" to 1.510".

Vihtavuori Reloading Guide Edition 6 recommends a trim length of 1.508" for new Sako USA brass. Cartridge drawing in the Vihtavuori guide shows a length of 1.490" minimum.

I use the 1.508" trim and re-trim at 1.510" in the Sako L-461 PPC USA chamber. I wouldn't trim them too short, but consider 1.510" max in my rifle.

I use SSA brass as it's cheaper than Lapua ($214 for 500 cases) and just fine for the Sako factory rifles. Being head stamped SSA it can be segregated from other cases used in custom 6mm PPC tight neck chambers. They come ready formed and there's no neck expansion or fiddling around with, although I ream the flash holes to a uniform .0624" just to feel I'm doing something special. It ain't needed - it's just handloader voodoo.
