Hi everyone,

I am currently gauging interest in shooting mid-range F-class matches in the Portland, OR area. My club does not currently have any highpower matches that would include F-class. If you would be interested in shooting with us even once a year, please e-mail me (kgairman@gmail.com). I'll need to know if you are a member of our club (TCGC).

Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith

I know Medford is a long way from Portland, but once a week we shoot F class [300-600 yard] at the old Camp White (near White City)(WWII) 600 yard range. Right now we are shooting on Saturdays starting at 1:00PM. Weather permiting. If your interested let me know and I'll get you more info..

Hi Monte,

Yes, Tri-County. I am trying to get the board of directors to allow us to hold matches. My idea is to have both long range (Douglas Ridge) and mid range available locally for shooters.

Keith,

I seem to remember another person (willy46) trying to get F-Class started down there, but got so much resistance from the existing HP director (wouldn't even let him put up F-class centers) that he ended up starting 600yd Benchrest instead. Good to hear that the main culprit is 'retired'... seems to be the only way to deal with some of these guys - wait for them to die off or retire.

Kinda' hard for me to shoot Wenatchee on a day pass. :)

I'll end up traveling for IBS/NBRSA matches but can't get fired up to spend three days for an F-Class shoot at this point...plus I work outside all day, and Tri-County has a covered carpeted platform!

Cascade (600) & Machias (500) both on your side of the pass and have active programs with nearly monthly matches and/or practices and covered firing lines. UNSC (Eatonville), Paul Bunyan (Puyallup) & TRR have less frequent Prone/F-Class matches, but still have 'em. Plenty of venues over there for ya. ;)

Sadly, that platform is not used for highpower matches. There is a rule in the book about shooting from an enclosed space. From what I can tell, the walled in structure makes it not okay with NRA, but I'm still looking at the rules to see if that interpretation is correct.

Another problem at TCGC is the safety rules implemented by the Board of Directors. The way we work at normal matches is not okay with them. They want the rifles in cases if they are to be moved behind the line. That will take some getting used to. Most shooters I know don't case their rifle after every string. I'll have to work on them about that as well, but I would bet money that we will have some pretty serious restrictions.

Simply put, some idiot did something dumb and the club responded by making uncased firearms a no-no.
