I have an old SMLE action I want to rebarrel to .410 gauge 3 inch chamber.
The action is not restorable but with replacement bolt its solid enough, at least for the .410, and I just want one but not the military versions.

I have a cut off No.4 barrel which I've done a little work on to get the extractor groove to line up when clocked in.
The No.4 brrels are a lot thicker which will allow threading for a cutts or similar choke, maybe a rifled extension, haven't decided.

What I need done is the 303 bore bored out to .410 cylinder bore, and a chamber cut for the 3 inch US type .410 shell. A slight under cut in the interface of the shoulder as well for crush fit.

Have you thought about using decimal chucking reamers with long extensions and reaming the bore in the lathe? Since you don't need rifling, anyone with a lathe and inclination could ream the bore. You'd need a correct sized chucking reamer, maybe an intermediary reamer, extension, and a .410 chamber reamer, and probably some bolt face work.
 
I would suggest using a rose reamer to remove the bulk of material and then use a helical flute chucking reamer for the last .012 - .015". The chucking reamers are not meant to remove a lot of material.

I'm still mulling over whether or not to go with my first plan to make this one a .32 winchester Special.
Couldn't find a proper rifled blank last time I looked.
Its a .321 bore with a 1:16 twist.
I could use an 8mm (.323) barrel, which would alow a wider range of bullets, but the 1:16 twist is what makes the .32 Winchester Special equally at home with jacketed smokeless or Lead and Smokeless, or even Lead and Black Powder.

The MkIII bolt face is flat, no raised lip to cradle the rim, and the ejection depends on the claw pushing the fired case to one side into a cone cut in the sidewall where it contacts a screw to flip it out. The ejection works with just about any rimmed case and most rimmless cases.
.410 conversions of the No.1 MkIII for use by prison camp guards and riot police are pretty common, I was thinking of improvements only possible by using the thicker No.4 barrel.

I just got a replacement bolt for my other No.1, a fully restored 1915 WW1 veteran, with fully adjustable sights, magazine cutoff, and a excellent condition pArker Hale PH5A target sight with adjustable sunshade and six different apetures to chose from acording to ambient light. So I'll have to put off the other project for awhile.
