Anyone familiar with 20 PPC?

Has anyone tried the 20 PPC? Accurate Shooter raves about it, including claims of superior wind bucking.
Last spring there was a guy at my home range shooting a BAT action, Krieger barrel, Jewell trigger, McMillen stock setup in 20 PPC and he was getting amazing 200 yard groups while fire forming brass. Other than that and the Accurate Shooter article, I have seen nothing on the cartridge.

My friend Richard Milton has a .20 PPC /Krieger barrel/ Stolle Panda that shoots very well...BUT not good enough for today's competition. In my opinion he has a twist that is too slow (1:15) and can only handle short bullets (~35 gr. or less). It is a full length PPC case and exhibits very high velocity. I have seen him trip the screens on an Oehler chronograph at 4550 fps with Berger 30 grain bullets pushed by a hefty charge of N133. I don't recommend this for any one else, but it should "explangulate" prairie dogs. Good Shooting.....James
 
I am building a 20PPC/ 17PPC Short (-.185"), There are several people who have the 20PPC's and are using the 40gr VMax and the 39gr BK for outstanding accuracy, clear out to 600yrds (2"@600). The faster twists (1-9") will shoot the 50gr quite well, I think that the PPC case is the most effeciant case out there for the 17/20/22, especially the short versions. 20ppc

I have been testing mine with 32gr bullets with both IMR4198 and H322. Not blown away I'm afraid. Just received 200 40gr bergers that will be tried with both 4895's and possibly IMR4320. Mine has .237 neck.

Instead of making up all those difficult cases if you want a 20, why not just go with a 20-222. That should zip them along plenty fast and still be fairly easy on barrels.

Thanks for all of the responses. My thought was a 1:9 twist so I could use the 50 grain bullets. I will have to research the 20-222. I am new to centerfire target shooting and never heard of it. I have to admit I am less concerned with barrel life than I am with reliable pin point accuracy. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs and I have to spend my retirement money on something. It might as well be a super accurate rifle.
 
I would say that if your after (pin point accuracy) just go with a 6ppc. You cant beat it!!! When you start playing with the 22cal and 20cal ppc's there is always a chance that you will run into trouble in one form or the other. I know!! The 6ppc is supper accurate and there is all kinds of info on this chambering. Bullets for the 6ppc is also another good reason. I am sure someone makes a custom 20cal bullet but there are several who make 6mm ppc bullets! Its with out a doubt the best easiest way to go for a (super accurate pin point rifle) good luck and enjoy. thats the most important thing right there!! Lee
 
This is just my personal opinion but I think the 6ppc is just a tad overbore in case capacity. I have thought for a while that if one would take the 22-100 or 22-085 case and neck it up to 6mm and jam it full of H4198 you would have the ultimate accurate rifle. Has to do with a lower muzzle pressure. But what the heck do I know.....
