Anschutz VS Winchester 52C

I would like to purchase either an Anschutz 1407 (mfg's 1973)-10lbs or a Winchester 52C(1956)-bull barrel(14lbs). Both of these are in similar shape ie. 98% condition with excellent barrels from what I can tell. The Winchester has I believe an aftermarket stock that is thumbhole with an adjustable hook buttplate that can be replaced with a normal buttpad. The Anschutz has an unadjustable stock. I would like to do some benchrest shooting and am wondering what rifle would give me the best 5 shot groups at 50 yards. The 52C has to me a better trigger. The Anschutz is priced at $1100 with the Winchester at $1750. What do you think. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am predjudiced, but I have two Win. 52's, a "C" and a "D", and I have owned a couple of Anschutz 54's, and I prefer the 52's. I have my factory triggers adjusted down to 6oz, and both of the shoot exceptionally well. My 52-C is in a McMillian Edge Stock, by Butch Hongisto and I had the barrel cut to 24" and recrowned and that rifle will make the 10.5 class with a Weaver T-36..

I also have both and though the Annie shoots well, the 52C shoots a bit better and action opening smoothness and cartridge camming ability make shooting really effortless. The rifle doesn't move around much when the bolt it worked.

The only problem with the Winchester, supposedly, is that the actions are hardened and warp a bit during the process. If they shoot well, so what? They're made so tough they'll outlast us all.
