Anschutz 54 MS

Hello, new to the forum and am interested in getting started with benchrest shooting, I have an opportunity to make a good deal on an Anschutz 54MS rifle which has a 2" wide flat foregrip that I don't think fits my Rock benchrest very well, or that I wish was closer to 3", does anyone know if I can merely add a Whidden Gunworks guide plate to that foregrip to accomplish the needed size?

Thanks,
Jim

Perennial question on the luck of owning an Annie...

Jim,

First off, welcome to benchrest.com.
As for your question, first (one) two of mine:
Are you doing this for fun?
Do you plan on trying your hand at competitive shooting?

If you're shooting for fun, then just add an adaptor to your forestock to best fit your rest and have a go at it.
If you plan on trying to shoot competitively, a visit in the rules book is in the cards. Then, when you are totally confused, come here and ask questions, or visit a local range that does rimfire BR and go and see what the regulars use. Don't be shy, they don't bite (for the most part !!)

Again, welcome.

PS: I'm not commenting on whether you buy the Annie or not. If it's in good shape go for it. Then smile everytime you shoot it.:)

Jim,
Why not get it fitting good into your rest and try it the way it is? I have found that adding a flat block which raises the forearm really does not help accuracy. At least you can then judge the benefit of any change.
Also, if you are really wanting to get competitive you will want a good benchrest stock.
