My name is Jerry Tompkins and I live in Topeka, KS. For many years I shot at the Mill Creek Rifle Club at Kansas City with friends like Don Creach, Chet Whitebread, and Merlin Hubbard.
The first benchrest rifle I ever fired belonged to Walt Berger, he of Berger Bullet and Benchrest Hall of Fame. I shot competitive NBRSA benchrest for about ten years until I developed a serious disability due to illness about 1995. My health is better but I'm not able to travel so have not attempted to get back into competitive shooting.
I still have one accurate rifle, a Remington 700 with 5R rifling and pillar bedding, although it's certain not in the benchrest category. I do shoot Berger bullets in it which I buy from old friends, Sinclair International. Fred Sinclair built the last three rifles I owned. I've been told that Don Creach ("former" prresident of NBRSA or is he still around?) still has one of my rifles which he actively shoots. I've been reading this forum with a great deal of interest and hoping to run across some old friends. If anyone reading this message remembers me I'd appreciate your emailing me at jtomp@cox.net. I'm anxious to know how old friends are doing.
Please accept my apologies for cluttering up this board but I am anxious to meet old friends if possible. I shot at about six NBRSA national champs. and four or five Super Shoots. Aside from Kansas City I shot at other "local" matches at St. Louis and Tulsa. If you have a moment I'd appreciate an email. I've lost track of most old friends and would like to know how everyone was doing. I'm a Life member of NBRSA but discontinued the association's newsletter in order to save it money when I had to become inactive in shooting due to illness.
