Ammo availability

Does anyone have an adequate supply of Black box for the testing of several lots prior to the purchase of a case?

Yes. Unfortunately we all have to chase those lots to find what we want before other shooters have bought it all.

Suppliers? A few to check are KSS, SFP, Berts Garage, Gene Davis etc etc etc. bob

Price increase

Better get it now , it's going up 10% on the Feb shipment .

Bob & Tuna - Thanks for your replies. I'm in NC & would like to get a dealer near enough to ship in a timely manner at reasonable cost. Hopefully a personal contact who can get me a half dozen or so different lots which can be tested in a new rifle - lots with enough quantity in inventory to allow me time to test and then order a case from the same lot. 10% isn't going to make or break me - I'm willing to pay the premium to have the time to test and select from current (new) inventory - don't want to get stuck rushing into testing & buying whatever might be left over at 10% less. Does this make any sense?

Speed Wins!

You won`t have the luxuary of plinking along and selecting KILLER LOTS of Eley black box and getting anything that will win anything significant . The only option is become a Eley distributor yourself and then you might be able to do things in that kind of a selection process , otherwise it ain`t gonna happen in a laid back selection format, good luck but speed wins !

Not too many years ago some ammo sellers would "hold" a lot or three for you for a few days while you tested. I'm not aware of anyone who does this today, but then I have not asked nor offered to pay extra for such a service.

Ammo selection/acquisition is a competititve process. If you want the best you need to compete for it. Another option is to use a test facility; Both Lapua and Eley now have one in the USA.

Lots of folks team up to test ammo. There is some speed advantage in having several rifles testing at the same time. Living next door to the distributor also gives you a bit of advantage if you want to go that far. Housing is readily available in East St. Louis these days.

Another solution is to buy a case or 2 of every lot available, test it at your leisure then sell off what you don't want to your competition. bob

Is the race for a good lot of Eley Black box the same for Eley Red or does the additional $5.00 per box cut down on the buyer demand ?. Richard

No Race for Red!

That is why some real sirius shooters shoot Red, it stays on the shelf a lot longer, Don`t know the answer , but I generally find Black that will outshoot & agg better than any of the Red I test with our group of test lots. Those boys in and around ST Louis have a distinct advantage over most , they got 90% of the 6045 last year just for that close proximity to Zanders! It has to be located somewhere!
