I can't get a grip on shooting in the wind at all, was wonderring could some one give me some pointers on how different winds effects ammo performance, I know in the end it comes down to practice but any help getting started is appreciated. Thanks.

People talk about certain ammo being good in the wind. Fact is that the higher the BC, the less drift you will have. BC is related to bullet shape but all our bullets are close to the same shape. Since shape is not the determining factor, we need to look at how quick a bullet stabilizes out the bore. Different ammo and barrel combinations stabilize quicker than others so you will see a direct relationship with ammo change but it's really a difference in tune. A well tuned gun stabilizes a bullet quickly so the BC goes up and the drift goes down. Now the direction of the drift is a whole nother story.

Question - do you have wind flags. If not get them. You can't tell till you do have them. How the rifle ammo combo perform with out them. Once have shoot and watch the flags and learn the conditions.

"The directon of the drift . . ."

In a picture, is worth a lot of words:

This is good reading about reading the wind.

The only way to really learn how to read the wind is get you a good set of wind flags and shoot, look at how the flags are acting in relation to where your bullet hits the target.

These are good flags at a good price, Danny Keeney makes them and he is a good guy. I have a set of them and I love them, they have helped my scores alot. Here is the web site for Dannys flags, Dan Killough sells them he is a great guy to deal with also.
