Today I was slugging a bbl to locate the tightest choke point for muzzle location. This bbl is .826 dia. I noticed a tight spot in the middle that I didn't remember from the last time I had a slug down the bbl. It took a couple of tries to get the muzzle where it needed to be.
I then started thinking about what I was going to do about the tight spot in the middle. I ran another slug up to the tight spot and then marked my pushrod with some tape. I then laid the pushrod on top of the bbl just to get an idea of where the tight spot was. The end of the pushrod was right at the wooden blocks I had the bbl clamped in !!!!!!!!!!!
I had the bbl in a 6" vise clamped between a pair of hardwood bbl blocks that Midway sells for their bbl vise. Clamped tight enough to be sure the bbl wouldn't shift but I didn't really put my weight on the vise handle.
I loosened the vise and relocated the blocks down near the muzzle and tightened it back up. Shazam ! Tight spot gone !!!
I need to try this on the 1.25" straight cylinder bbl I have on the shelf !
