Aluminium Stocks

Just putting this out there, I am a 3-Position smallbore shooter, so that's where this question stems from.

In the past 5 or so years, there has been a major transition in position shooting to aluminium stocks. The real draw for most shooters is the added adjustability of making the rifle fit their position better than a wooden stock.

From an ultimate accuracy standpoint, in how the rifle alone shoots is there any disadvantage to shooting a aluminium stock. I know some people believe wood dampens the vibrations of the rifle better and thus is more accurate inherently. Is there some truth to this? From my limited knowledge of benchrest shooting, I haven't noticed a bunch if any people using aluminium stocks. Why is this?

I have a metal stock on my CF BR rifle and have designed a metal stock for my Annie 2013 but I haven't started making chips yet.

Don't want to mention names but a biggie in the Annie world told me that they went to metal stocks cuz they are easier and cheaper to mass produce than wood stocks that need more hand work and care in manufacture and more labor intensive and that wood is a superior material for a stock.

Well, that makes a lot of sense now that you mention it. I completely understand how metal stocks would be easier to manufacture than wooden stocks. As a raw material wood is difficult to work with from a manufacturing standpoint in comparison to metal, due to its low dimensional stability and uniformity in general.
