A while back you posted a ? about using an epoxy designed for anchors in concrete.
Did you get any replys? Did you try it your self? If there are any short comings other than short working and clean up time woodja lemme no? Proposed use would be for bedding a lesser expensive plastic stock. [Ramline]
Concerns range from adhesivnes, [if that's a real word] maby to brittle, shoe wax as a release agent, or any other negatives you can think of.
Somebody has to have tryed it, all responders welcome!!

I may be past my cure time!

Spent yesterday evening on this subject act'rally ... :) A friend of mine is in the process of tightening up one of the tupperware Rem 700 XCR's using the Simpson epoxy. This is a wicked flexy stock and my friend opted to drill two parallel holes all the way thru the forend, he inserted 1/4X24 allthread running it down both sides from the forend clear back thru the magwell and stopping just short of the trigger........ and then filled the whole stock with the Simpson SET epoxy. It's now quite stiff, acceptably so. It's also single-shot. ;)

He filled the buttstock with a mix of SET and some lead shot for balance and hopes to end up at about 10.5lb for a 300WSM.

I've used it on two rifles and have had no negative thoughts so far. It's heavy, it's brittle, it's stiff and as far as I can tell it doesn't shrink. I've used Kiwi Neutral shoe polish for release agent.

I have no way of comparing it to other epoxies other than usage. I'm happy with it so far. It seems harder than Brownell's mixes, it's also harder seeming than Devcon steel putty or any of the other mixes I've used. It actually has sand in it I think. I'm not gonna' tout it as the next great thing but I've got easy access to it, it applies well with the squeezy applicator (Kind of a built-in syringe) and it bulks up well. I'm a real tightwad so being able to keep using the bulk tube and only throwing away the two dollar mixing tip each time works for me. Of course this whole thing hinges on one having access to the double-sided caulking gun which ain't cheap.

I've not tried to glue anything in with it.

And that's all I know about that!

Stephen B Moore: I have had great luck with Marine-Tex for bedding in the past.
Most Marine-Tex is white in color - its harder to find the black Marine-Tex but its out there.

Al -&- v.g.

I have used most of the commonly used epoxies for bedding. I had a tube of Simpson set 22 with the typical 1/2" of product the gun won't push out. Been thinking about trying the stuff since Hilti came out with it years ago. Last night I used a mallet handle to push one tube at a time. Was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Now, if it only came in obama [black or brown?] but it is a grey matter.

THNX for the replys!! Steve Moore
