All in all we had a good day. The temperature was a bit on the cool side, 45° to 50°, and the wind was a little less than cooperative, 5 to 15 MPH, but it didn't seem to matter a whole lot since the sun was out, the black flies were few and we were all back together again and enjoying one anothers company for the first time in over 7 months.

We had 9 shooters at the match, which for us was our largest regular match in quite some time.
Mike Gallant joined us for his first ever IR 50/50 match and did quite well shooting a 719-22x agg.
Frank Danisienka was there once again after spending the last couple of years shooting centerfires from the bench, and beating up on some of the top names in centerfire.
And then there were our regulars,

Al and Penny Hadfield were the ones who took the day though! Not only did they SPLIT the money from our "Line Shoot", but Al won the 10.5# Class shooting a 250-17x with Penny right on his heals shooting a 248-16x, and then Penny turned around and took the 13.5# Class with a 248-12x. And just to avoid any confusion, they were both shooting their Calfee Builts.

When all was said and done, the results looked like this:
SPORTER CLASS
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 246-12x
(personal best)
2.) Penny Hadfield 245-8x
3.) Todd Banks 241-8x

10.5# CLASS
1.) AL HADFIELD 250-17X

2.) Penny Hadfield 248-16x
3.) Michael Gallant 248-11x

13.5# CLASS
1.) PENNY HADFIELD 248-10x

2.) Michael Gallant 247-8x
3.) Todd Banks 245-12x

After we got done with the rimfires we packed them up and a few headed out for home. But a few stuck around for our AGBR match that followed, some out of curiosity, but two with rifles. I had been hoping for a few more to come in for the match, but you can't always have what you wish for.

Paul Bendix and myself shot our Theoben Unlimited guns, his in .22 cal and mine in .177, while Todd Banks and Kathy (soon to be Mrs. Banks) along with Al and Penny Hadfield and Mike Gallant stayed to watch. By the end of our first target it was only Todd and Kathy that were sitting there, so I figured since I had failed at convincing Todd to join us earlier, why not let him give it a go between targets while we were scoring ...plus before he got away. Well, I'm not sure, but romur has it that he's now been making some inquires about buying one of these great little guns.

The final results for the airgun portion of our match are as follows:
UL-1
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 232-2x

2.) Paul Bendix 201-0x

UL-2
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 242-3x

2.) Paul Bendix 234-3x

UL-3
1.) PAUL BENDIX 235-3x

2.) Dave Shattuck 235-0x

I absolutely have to thank everyone for all of their help as, without it, the match would have never been able to happen. You folks took care of the things I am not able to do right now, and you did so without my ever asking. That means a lot to me!

Dave,
Great Match! Thanks for keeping the black flies away. Awesome Sporter score!

Al and Penny, Fantastic shooting, 2 250 pins already this year! (you should have gone to Salem! for your third 250)

Mike and Todd, Thanks for talking me into going to Salem. I had a good time!

Dave next airgun benchrest I will shoot all 25 bulls!

Will see you next month.

Paul

My friends

My friends:

Awesome shooting by all.................

Friend Penny: Your little .825" Lilja has one of the few 6:00 chambers that I've been able to produce......I've stopped trying to produce them as there are just too many things that have to come in, all at the same time, for them to work...

Penny, I will say this; if I could figure how to produce 6:00 chambers, like in your little Lilja .825", I'd do it every time......

Your friend, Bill Calfee

Friend Dave:

The rimfire benchrest gun business is wild....even with the price of gas and bullets......but my friend Dave...............When one shoots their personal best, in Sporter, and wins, especially in the crowd you shoot against, CONGRATULATIONS!.... I mean , double CONGRATULATIONS!

Dave,
You ran a really good match. Thanks for your efforts. I'm glad I finally got to shoot at Pinnacle. And again, congratulations on the 246-12 on sporter!

Al and Penny - wow, you guys can shoot! ...and Al, your quote from JF, that so much of this game is in the mind, is so true. I have the book "With Winning in Mind" that Joe recommends. It's a good read.

You showed how effective clearing the negative out your head can be. If I remember correctly, you shot the first two bulls on the 13.5 card for a low score, got yourself past the disappointment and finished by shooting clean on the rest of the card. Thanks for the inspiration.

Paul - It's always a pleasure to see you at a match. I'm glad you made it up to Salem on Sunday. Boy was I tired Sunday night.

See y'all in Holbrook for the next one.

Best,
Michael

I'm glad everybody had a good time. And Mike, now you can have full appreciation for what we are talking about when we refer to the Winds of Pinnacle. In fact, the last time I saw anything close to a calm or constant condition was 3 years ago.

Bill, thanks for the note. Coming from you it means a lot. That little Finnfire of mine absolutely loves the UJ3128 SA you recommended a few years back, and without meaning to sound arrogant, if I had done my part better I know the score could have been even higher. But, where I'm the one doing the shooting, I'm proud to have done so well.

I hope to see everyone again on the last Saturday in May as that is our next scheduled get-together at Pinnacle. Until then, keep 'em all in the center.

Dave

Bill...I'm very happy with that gun you did for me...if I do my part and keep my concentration...it does the rest very consistently...no thoughts of ever trading it!

Mike and Paul...I bet you were both exhausted after all that driving 2 days in a row...Al hit the sack at 7:30 Saturday night, and you both got up early again and drove to Salem on Sunday...how do you do it? Too much for us oldies!

Looking forward to shooting at the Holbrook range on May 18th...those new benches look great Paul! Penny

Dave, congratulations and being your personal best will hopefully give you that extra push to top this one.

Congratulations Al and Penny. Al, I remember our phone conversations in the past where you looked forward in shooting just 1 250 in a year. That was a highlight for you. Now you have 2 of them in 2 different matches. I'm so happy for you and know there are plenty more left in you for you to shoot.

Dave, It's nice that you all had a great time and had a good showing. Congrats to all of you on some fine shooting, you are all winners in my minds eye.

Take Care,
Joe

Dave,
I enjoyed the match at Pinnacle, as always. It's the most relaxing drive to a match of all the ranges I go to. 2.5 hrs of VT and NH mountains and valleys beats Interstate driving any day! Thanks for letting me shoot your Airgun, too. I working on picking up a Springer and/or a Match class gun before the next Pinnacle Match.

Congrats to Dave, Al and Penny for some fine shooting in the typical Pinnacle conditions! Al, you mentioned that your heavy gun seemed to shoot better after taking last year off...any thoughts to giving it the next 5 off? Just think how well it'll shoot then;)
See you next month,
Todd

Hi all,

Dave,… that was some nice Sporter shooting in less than favorable conditions, good job. Also thanks for keeping IR going at Pinnacle Mtn. when I know you are not feeling as “chipper” as you would like.

BC…Thanks! :)

Mike…Your right, one of the hardest things I have had to learn in around 12 years of RFBR is to just “suck it up” after a poor start and compete the target as best one can. Don’t let a bad shot throw you off. The other thing that is hard for me when I do have a good target going is to pull the trigger, starting in about the fourth row each shot comes harder and harder…#25 is a b****!

Joe…You’re right. I have never shot more than one 250 a year, averaging much less than one a year since I have been shooting RFBR. To shoot two in the first two matches of the year is a thrill. Again I thank you for helping me pick out some good ammo.

Todd…Give the heavy gun a five year vacation? HA! :D Thanks for helping with the scoreing!

Ain’t Spring grand! :)

Al

Congratulations to the Pinnacle Mtn wild bunch on some really impressive shooting. It is really pleasing to see you all shoot so well and makes me try that little bit harder as I see others accomplish what I would like to.

And to Al on another mighty 250, we are impressed, good one mate.
[I now tell everyone we are related ,we'll we do work on boats with the same name]

Keep up the good work and keep smiling.

Regards,
Charlie

It snowed up the hill the other night, already. If we get an early winter does this mean an early spring will follow?,fingers crossed it does.

Hey Al, haven't you ever sent Charlie down a picture? Man oh man, the "wild bunch" we aint! "Over~The~Hill~Gang" maybe, but wild bunch was a long, long time ago!

Thanks for the kind words Charlie, and if you're ever up in this hemisphere, be sure to look us up,

Dave

Say Dave...You mean that picture of with us and our walkers?

For those that don't know my Mate Charlie here is a link to to kind of boats he plays with.( http://www.badattituderacing.com.au/ ) I named my little fishing boat in honor of the toys he plays with. Those boats are nice but they don't troll worth a damn.

Charlie, we must be related, we both have a... Bad Attitude! ;)

Al :)

Charlie, you have an awesome site with some beautiful drag boats. Use to river race with a top fuel hull back 30 years ago. The boat was called "Bad Moon Rising". It was a Cole 3 inch runner if my memory serves me right. They were experimenting at that time with this hull and they couldn't keep it on the water, it was to unstable. I believe they built 3 experimental hulls and finally gave up with that design. It was scary fast and won a lot of cash with that boat.

Joe

G'day Joe,
I am lucky enough to work with the boats and my bank manager tells me even luckier that I do not own them.

I will pass on all your very kind comments to Paul who owns the Web site and Bad Attitude boats, Craig who owns the Drag Boats and the other members of the team who also make it all happen, they will be pleased.

Joe you will have to tell me the secret of making some cash when racing boats.
The Maintainence bills on the Top Fueller are really scary,It also has a new design detachable front sponson "BULLIT" Hull which is working great.[On Happy note It ran 246 MPH a few weeks back]

Good luck to the Pinnacle Mtn wild bunch with your shooting this year and I look forward to seeing your results.
Keep smiling and lots of luck to all, all good,

Charlie

Congratulations!!

Al & Penny,

Congratulations! Absolutely awesome shooting.

Thanks for your kind comments passed onto me by Charlie. It is gratifying when things start to come together and one's scores improve. I still have a long to go but I am enjoying the journey.

This particular thread brings together several of the people who have wittingly or unwittingly helped me to enjoy rimfire BR - my friend and mentor Charlie Murray and also Bill, Al, Joe, Dave and others whose posts have been thought provoking/ instructive/ entertaining - sometimes all three.

Good results are always easier in good company.

Congratulations again and many thanks,

Mick

Hi Mick,

Charlie has kept me posted on your shooting accomplishments...Well done!

Charlie is one of the best mentors one could have. Just be a bit cautious, anyone who was in Post Hole Sales has to be watched. :D

Take care, Al
