Hosting the 2008 National Championship Tournament

1. I will be the Match Director for the National Championship Tournament and will pretty much take care of all the pre-registeration, match preparations, directions and overall supervision of the event.

2. This match will be held at my club in Gallion, Alabama. We have one of the nicest ranges in the Southeast, have dedicated air gun shooters and although we are not centrally located usually have some of the best November weather in the country. Generally speaking 50 degree nights and 70 degree days.

3. This will be our premier airgun event of the 2008 shooting season. In the past one of the drawbacks of conducting an event of this nature is the purchase of trophies and awards by the club which were required by many of the shooting organizations and the limited number of shooters coming to the event. To alleviate this concern, for our first National Event, I will provide all trophies and awards personally. In the future I will be working on a corporate sponsor for these trophies and as our sport grows will work to have door prizes for all the participates.

4. Access to the range will be provided from 12:00 noon on Thursday Nov 13th until the end of the day on Sunday Nov 16th. The money collected for match fees will be used to offset the cost of the match and to pay for any Jr shooters which will all shoot for free.

5. As to scoring committee, referees, helping hands etc. all volunteers are welcomed to pitch in but only if you think it won't affect your participation in the match.

6. The cost for the event will be $ 60.00 for both days, only $40.00 for one day. Competitiors may shoot in all classes for the same entry fee. Again, All Jr shooters shoot for free.

7. Camping is available at the range. The fee is $10.00 per night. There are 2, 30 amp service connections next to my barn and 4, 20 amp connections. please let me know when you register if you are planning on staying at the range.

8. If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate to call me at 334-287-3527

9. Registeration is easy. Just email me or mail your name and address and the equipment you will be using for the match.

Directions to the range

Directions to the range:
From Demopolis travel East on Highway 80, go past French Creek and turn left on County Road 2, ( if you get to mile mark 39 you just missed CR2), go across the railroad track and turn right just before the pasture on the right. . If you get to the white vinyl fence you just missed the turn. The range is about 300 yards through the big iron gate..

GPS Co-ordinates:32deg30min52.80sec North 87deg45min56.99sec West

Hotels in the Demopolis area

Econo Lodge: 334-287-0300 $ 79.95

Day's Inn: 334-289-2500 $ 65.00

Best Western: 334-289-2611 $ 98.95

Holiday Inn:334-289-9595 $ 89.10

RiverView inn: 334-289-0690 $ 55.00

All of these are withing 5 minutes of the range. The new Best Western is the nicest but I personally like the Econo Lodge.

the Riverview is older but has a great resturant overlooking the Demopolis Marina. Another good resturant is the Red Barn, great shrimp cocktails and Steaks.

Another outstanding Steak resturant is Buck's located on the banks of the Black Warrior River. The best 20 oz Ribeye you can find.

Ron,
I sent you a small donation to help you offset some of the cost of running the first National shoot. The AirGunners from Holbrook, MA wish you the best with the first Tournament.

Thanks Don!

I think I recall shooting that Blue gun in my tunnel! I was thinkin, some guy is gonna be happy! I had thot it was for a Arkansonian, but Tim tole me it was a Texan?

Texarkana is one of those towns that splits the state line of Texas and Arkansas. Texans are not that much different from Arky's. You just take the hot air out of the Texan and he will look just the same.

texans

I think that the gun you tested is going to a crusty old gentleman that lives in Gilmore, Texas but alas I have to say that he is a transplant texan. He moved to texas with Mr. Ed Shilen many years ago form some place in the new england area.
He and his son shoot with us at the Texarkana Gun Club. He is how waiting on his USFT air rifle so he can shoot air gun benchrest with us.
Don we missed you this past weekend. Darrel gave us another lesson in shooting. And that a big AMEN about the hot air.
Also Chris Peet told us that they are going to start up some air rifle matches over at Ennis, Tx.

I really wanted to come but I'm still baby sitting my wife. When you had it schedualed for noon, I was going to try to make it but when you moved it to morning, it meant an overnight stay and didn't feel I could do that. Next year!!

match

I'm sorry you couldn't make it. The 12:00 starting time was a miss print to start with but maybe next time I'll leave it at that time. I didn't think about saving you guys a motel room but the only trouble is the range faces west and late in the evening it's the devil to see.
