I have heard pros and cons of whwere to add weight to the stock some say never at the butt stock and some say only add weight to the front of the stock, what gives. suggestions

Add it where its needed to make weight and have proper balance. The best shooting rifle I own has about 2 lbs of #7 1/2 shot rattling around loose in the buttstock.

Maybe the loose

Shot absorbs some of the recoil? Which brings up another question, how much bullet energy goes to recoil instead of the bullet?

Lets say we put the butt against an imovable object, instead of my wimpy shoulder. Would we gain any measureable velocity/energy?

Aloha, Les

Shoot over a chronograph. Free recoil will be slower than a firm hold.--Mike Ezell:cool:
