Action truing jig, Bolt size

Is there any preferred thread pitch for the bolts on the action truing jig, I was thinking finer thread would possibly be more acceptable for helping dialling in the action and how thick should the bolts be?.
The body of the Jig will be just over 4", I will be using 2 brass bushings inside the bore of the jig to protect the action.
I don't know at what stage of my learning curve that I will actually use the jig, I Just want to start making something, this is my next project, only the bolts to purchase.

Thank you in advance

I think 1/4 x 28 would work as well as anything and easy to get.

Hi Dennis
Thank you for your swift reply.
I was thinking that I would require a wider bolt than the one that you have suggested, looking at other peoples jigs the bolts look way wider than 6 mil.

Cheers

I used 3/8-24 in both the receiver truing fixtures, the spider chuck, and when I cross drilled the back end of the spindle. I put brass tips in them.

Doesnt take much force to hold an action in the truing fixture, in fact you dont want to apply too much force which would in turn deform the action and create machining errors to the action.

The 1/4-28 or 3/8-24 bolts would be perfect for the jig, applying only a couple of foot/pounds torque in order to not deform the action being machined...................Don

Thanks Guys
I can now order up my bolts, much appreciated.

Cheers

I used three eighths course thread and they work fine and have for twenty years. I put brass tips on the screws. One has to be careful not to distort the receiver when tightening the screws up. Easy to do. Regards, Bill
