Interested in finding out is there many 338 Lapua rifles used for Long range 600-1k+ matches etc, are they winning many fclass and benchrest matches with the 250g Lapua scenars against the 6mm 7mm or 30cals, Shot a TRG 338 Lovley rifle, found recoil dampend with a brake upfront, guess they would be expensive to run but with the high bc of that 250g Lapua scenar one would immagine they would be good choice for long range matches, paul.

Before you are flogged, tarred and ferathered you should move this to the 1000 yard forum.

I don't think you are allowed to use muzzle brakes in F-class. This would make shooting a .338 laying on the ground pretty tough.

You are however allowed to use one in NBRSA benchrest. On the windy days you might have some advantage. In my short time in Long-range I have seen a trend toward smaller calibers. Don

Sniper rifle

I have shot a couple of different .338 Lapua rifles. The Armalite AR30 and the surgeon custom rifle. The .338 isn't looked on much for a BR rifle, but in the longer range sniper matches it rules. Many American sniper matches are set up to favor the 308 by limiting the range of the shots. The longer ranges are becomng more popular and the .338 definitely has an advantage over the 30 cal rifles. While the 308 is generally accepted to have a max range around 900 yards, the .338 easily performs well out to 1500 and beyond. Most don't use the 250 scenar bullet because the 300 grain sierra is cheaper and has better BC. .338 Lapua is an expensive round which makes reloading almost mandatory. You should consider a different chambering if benchrest is your game.
