Has anyone ever taken the time to traverse the boundaries of say area 67 antelope hunting area? I assume that it's pretty much all roads so that one could check out the boundaries if one so chose.

Where is 67. Ive hunted antelope by Laramie and Sundance. Always killed antelope but I wasn't trophy hunting. The guy I hunted with is a Wyo. native he said the best hunting was in the red desert. Out in the southwest part of the state.

Area 67 is known as "Sand Draw" and most of it's boundaries are described as along roads, BUT not all.
Get a copy of the 2017 Antelope, Deer and Elk Hunting Regulations where you will find Hunt Area Boundary Descriptions. Area 67 is on page 45. Some of 67 is along the Wind River Reservation and can be difficult. STAY OUT! Stay save.

Just got my booklet a few days ago. I've hunted in that part of Wyoming in the past, but I believe it was in area 106 and not 67. 106 is immediately south of 67. We put in on Bison Basin Road just off of 287 near Sweetwater Station. I just picked 67 as an example.
Drew a tag for area 29 near Douglas. Was reading the description of the hunt area and boundaries and was just wondering if [even tho it's rarely necessary to do so] anyone ever made the effort to familiarize themselves with the boundary of the area they plan to hunt in.

It is the hunter's responsibility to be familiar with the hunt area drawn. Hunting out side the hunt area drawn is called poaching=
True. Would also be trespassing if you strayed onto private land. Most people will have access to a small area within the hunt area, so one would want to be familiar with that. It's not usually necessary to know the entire area, unless you are a game warden. If I ever go alone again and get bored, I'll drive the perimeter of area 29 if possible.

About 7-8 yrs ago we were heraded N to Casper on Labor Day weekend Sunday and had no campground.
At an intersection about 25 mi s there happened to be a Fish & Game antelope check station. I asked the gentleman about camping. He said once we got past a certain point, every other sq mi on our left was state land.
We thought we'd find a campingh spot but there was barbed wire the whole 25 mi to Walmart campground.
I hope you are luckier in finding hunting land that we were finding camping spot.
I guess the local renter of state/fed land just fences and pays his 5 cents/acre and fences. Cheaper than taxes I suppose.
Montana and Dakotas are the same-75% or more taxpayer owned and barbed wire for 1000 mi across Montana and N Dakota on both sides of the interstate. I just like to have what the barbed wire cost.

I already have a place to hunt. Probably wouldn't go to the trouble of going out there if I didn't. Once his first few hunters leave, we'll have the whole ranch pretty much to ourselves. He has good hunters who take their goats without putting every other critter on the ranch on high alert.
Can't recall that I've ever seen a manned antelope/game check station anywhere in Wyoming.
What the gentleman told you about are referred to as school sections. Every 10th section in Wyoming belongs to a school district and they lease the land out as a source of revenue. They are "public" land and I don't think the renter can keep you off. Some license types [like mine] aren't good on public land. Best to go to a BLM office and get a detailed map of what's what as well as the most current ownership changes. Sometimes, it's smart to retain a knowledgeable local to show you where to go. While it's against the law in Wyoming to use an unlicensed outfitter, there is no law against hunting with "friends".
We have school sections in MI. If there is a lake in that section they were often labelled 'school section lake'.

State or public land is mostly useless if access is limited or blocked. You probably needed to get off of I-25 and try to get access from the other side.
