A visitor from South Africa

Last week a visitor from South Africa, Arthur Morta contacted me through Private Messages on this forum stating he was visiting in the Maryland area for a couple of weeks and he desired to observe some Benchrest Shooting. After exchanging a couple of more PM's we had ruled out the possibility of his visiting any registered matches as the timing and locations were not suitable. I did however invite him to attend a groundhog match at St. Thomas Sportsman's club in PA where I and about 50 other people would be shooting last Saturday. During about the 3rd Relay Arthur and his wife approached me to introduce themselves. At about the same time my good friend Rod Morton said there was still time for him to get on the 4th Relay and Rod offered Arthur an extra rifle he had with him. After a little arm twisting Arthur realized the offer was genuine (Rod is always helping out new shooters) and he shot the Match with Rods extra rifle (Bat Action 30BR NF Scope Tooley Stock) At this point It would make a wonderful end to this story if I could tell you Arthur won or came in 2nd or 3rd. but that was not the case it was a 200/300/400 yard match with no flags allowed in some very windy switchy conditions. I do however think I am safe to say Arthur and his wife had a fun time.

Y'know, Dick, it never ceases to amaze me......................

how, for all the political efforts to ban guns, "feeding devices", Saturday Night Specials, etc., etc., shooters can be the best international ambassadors of goodwill, and guests always seem to be totally safe in their presence.

Truly amazing, isn't it??

Glad your guys were able to show them a good time.....
