Folks, At the begining of this week I made a some what long and ranting post about my "TRYING" to start shooting F-Class competition. I was unable to do that because of a physical limitation. I then thought I would try to start shooting Benchrest Competition. The post I made is in the Center Fire Benchrest topic.

I recieved a very positive response to my post there. Charles E has even linked to that thread here on the 600/1,000 topic. I wanted to take a moment and thank Charles for his very much appricated response. I have recieved a tremendous response with invitation to shoot many shoots here in the the South when I do get up and running. Thank you all that gave me a heads up and a piece of advice, I will never forget the kindness of the members here on this board.

A special thank you must go to Bob Pastor, the Owner of Viper Rest's. To be completly honest I did not know Bob Pastor nor of his Company before I posted here. Bob is a very rare and I must say talented man. He has shown me a kindness that I can only hope to one day repay, and it will be my Honor Bound duty to be ready when that day comes. Thank you Bob !!!!!!!

I would encourage anyone to take a look at Bob's web Page. I may be new to benchrest, well new may not even be accurate as I havn't even shot my first match yet, but I do recognize quality when I see it. Bob's work is a couple of steps beyond quality. www.viperbench-rest.com

Thanks To All
Roland

I do have a couple of questions but I will make them in a separate post.....

I do have a question for you more experianced shooters, that would be anyone other than myself by the way. While I have been shooting and reloading for decades this is my first adventure into Benchrest Shooting. I know that you guys walk to the beat of a different drummer in the way you do things and some advice would be very welcome.

I have no problem at all in making the rifle go "Bang" but I do not know what is good enough in the world of Long Range Benchrest. While my personal shooting philosophy is I am in competition with myself, I would like to be at least competitive. I have shot many different competition in the past,I am a master class shooter in BPCR Silhouette, also in Pistol Silhouette, I also have shot ATA Trap for many years or at least I did.

I have this brand new rifle in 6mmBR and have just this week recieved it and started shooting. It has exactly 122 bullets through the barrel to date. I have purchased 500 Lapua cases, fireformed 150 Lapua Brass and have have shot some of the reloaded brass that is fireformed as I am in the load work-up stage now. Here are some of the targets I have shot. All of these were shot at 400 yds as that is the only distance I have available to me right now. If some of you would take a look and let me know if I am headed in the right direction.

This is the first 5 shot group I shot from this rifle other than the fireforming rounds. The hit in the (9) ring was the Cold Bore Shot. Very little wind maybe 3mph "maybe", while it was very hot out around 95 or so degrees there was no mirage at all.

This is two six shot groups shot about an hour apart. I shot the first and lower of the two groups and then made an elevation correction on the NightForce NSX 12x36 Scope. I did clean between these two groups as well, in both cases the Cold Bore shot is the shot outside the groups and to the left.

This was the last group (10 shots) I shot. I believe the vertical stringing is shooter error as I was very tired at the end of a very long day.

Thanks Roland

Hey,,you are gettin there....when you see the bullets lined up like "birds on a wire",,,sittin on the electric wires along the hiway....hahah....you are getin the vertical out of em.....the horizontal is mostly the wind havin its way with you....inch groups at 400 are plenty good .....load up some and get to an event...you will hav a ball...Im glad to hear that your rifle is under 17 lbs.....dont hav to buy or change anything.....I too am disabled ,,,,had a car wreck in 1980...broken back....hav to shoot a LG ...cant cary a HG,,,,but I do ok and hav lots-0-fun.....keep up the good work ...Roger

Roland: Yes Bob Pastor does make a great Rest and has a heart of gold, I've known Bob for years he and I bust on each other all the time but anyone he comes in contact with that needs help he is there for them. I hope he pointed you toward the PA 1000 yard club. Your last trarget looks like you may have pulled a shot like I do, concentrate more on the squeeze! Roland once you get to a match you won't believe the guys that will help you carry your equipment or get you to the bench if need be.

and click on a match to see the results. That will show you what it takes. Don't just look at one match -- some ranges are a bit harder than others, and some days a bit worse.

Roland, most of us are proud and stubborn, and more than a couple of us know all too much about long-time pain. "Proud and stubborn" do have some worthwhile attributes, but I've found it a mistake to get competitive about them.

It is easy to repay anyone. When I was a teenager, someone helped me out. Not that it matters, but he was a Marine Gunnery Sargent. I told him I didn't now how to repay him. He said that was easy, just help someone else out. Ever since we stopped living in caves we've all tacitly agreed to help each other out.

Hope to see you at a match,

Charles

EDIT:
Joe, Roland lives in Alabama. Williamsport would be quite a hike. But yes, anyone who gets serious about the sport should try to take in Pennsylvania's World Open.

Thanks Hombre, Now we will never get Charles' big head through the door at the club house.

Roland,

Yes Bob has a heart of gold, I have experienced his kindness and am proud to call him a great friend for the past 10 yrs.. But now considering his advanced age, dont hesitate to call him up and give him heck. Cuz whatever grief I may have given him yesterday, he has forgotten about today.

In all seriousness, you need to ask him about the Viper Rest "WTB" function. The "WTB" function is a funtional design built into all his products and work he performs for others. WTB is downright mind boggling, just ask Bob.....
