A hypothetical question

Aimed more toward the guys with experience with the 6PPC and 222Rem.

How much are you really giving up to the 6PPC, all else being equal. For the sake of argument - lets say someone was interested in 100/200yrd LV for group. How much disadvantage will they realize if they go with 52g bullets in the 222 over the 6? More specifically, using the modern equipment and practices the 6 enjoys, could the 222 be competitive on a local/regional level?

I'm curious because I'd really like to build a retro style BR gun in 222 (or even 222 Rem Mag) for fun.

Cheers!

Your doin this JUST for fun... NOT to compete at todays Agg levels.....

So...

My honest guess is the Duce built on todays cutting edge equipment will STILL have a tough time getting below a .2200 Agg level... This for a combind Agg (one class combind 100/200 groups agg).... ON AVERAGE...

It's my opinion that .2200 is the average Agg level throughout the land to a winning agg... Sometimes WAY smaller than this and sometimes WAY bigger..... Conditions DICTATE..!

I've tried... Didn't let the Sporter thing get in my way of shooting a .224 in LV/HV classes (.222 / 22-100ppc / 22ppc FL).... Had WAY fewer Agg wins than I do today using a 6ppc EXCLUSIVELY in LV/HV.....

A Lemming......... I guess......... BUT I'M IN IT TO WIN........... 6PPC IS the Way 99% of the time.

Just build a Duce and have FUN!... The little Duce does have a solid advantage... "Longer" barrel life, bit longer than a 6ppc typically... For some WAY longer.
As well as the quick, short recoil of the 224's... THIS I miss, even compared to a 6ppc..

Thank you very much for the response!

Did anyone shoot a 222R Improved? I've heard that a 223AI will post smaller aggs than a 223, but have no factual data or numbers to support that.

Yeah, the 222 is a darn fun round. I have an older 700 varmint that I'm considering making into a "retro" bench gun. Just to show up to the line with something a little different I suppose.

Another question - who's doing the best .224 barrels these days? What was thing "winning" twist back then? 1-12?

Again, thanks!
