A couple of new stocks

Rick Ingraham and I got together this morning to do a little shooting. I was trying out my new Bubinga/Black Walnut stock on my CZ200S for the first time and Rick was shooting his Bubinga/Curly Maple stocked Dawson actioned gun. Both stocks are unfinished at this point, but I think they're going to look pretty darn nice when they're done. I have a lot of sanding to do on mine, but hope to have at least one coat of finish on it by Sun. evening.

Rick was shooting an interesting barrel today. It doesn't show up well in the picture, but that's an octagon barrel for a Stevens rimfire that he bought out of a bargain bin for $5 thirty years ago. Jury's still out on whether it'll shoot or not.

We're shooting at Salem again tomorrow morning at 10am, if anyone's interested in joining us!

Nice looking stock, Andy! Are you coming to the Worlds? I hope to meet you there!

If anyone was wondering how long it takes to sand 2 ounces off a Bubinga stock with an orbital sander, I have the answer for you....5 hours. I started with 60grit, then 80, 100 and quit at 120grit. Shooting tomorrow morning, then 240 through 600 grit and maybe a first coat.

I am hoping to be there, looking forward to meeting you too. Bubinga what sort of wood is that?

Regarding your AA 200 what calibre is it what ft/lb which class LV or HV and how many shots do you get in the sweet spot?

Lots of boys get real accuracy on the HFT circuit over here in the UK using them.

Andy,
Bubinga is a very dense African hardwood, related to African Rosewood. My 200S is a .177 set at 12fpe for the LV class. When I first started trying to qualify I was constantly blowing targets on the last row because I was shooting sighters like I would with my rimfire BR guns and running low on air. The tube the gun came with was only giving me about 35 shots. I bought a longer tube from Top Gun Airguns and now get almost twice that shot count. I've shot several 248's with it and I'm sure it's capable of shooting 250's. I'm still trying to retrain myself after shooting rfbr for 8 yrs. The airgun requires ALOT more patience and attention to the flags!!

Todd,
You can't emphisis that enough! Patience and flag watching is definitely the name of this game much more than with the rimfires.

Yeah a lot cheaper and better solution in my opinion to fitting a reg, I have always advocated putting bigger tubes on the Air Arms range like you have done to increse the length of the sweet spot.

Those 200s sure can shoot though I know a while back there was a lot of time and effort spent putting or trying to put their barrels on S400s. Ken Turner himself a few years back had done that to his own 400. Looked good as well. Think it was a CZ or Brno barrel but I could be wrong on that.

CZ Stock, 5 coats.jpg
Here's the stock after the 5th coat of poly. I figure I'll just keep adding coats until I get to 10.5lbs.
Not sure if a reg. would be cheaper or not. The new tube was $196 shipped to my door. On the bright side, even with the new tube, 36X Sightron scope, I'm still under $1000:cool: (not counting the stock)

Speaking of flags Dave, how many are you using at 25meters? I know you use more than most people for RF. Rick thinks I'm nuts when I put out 8 or 9 for 25 meters for airgun BR!

Todd,

I'm still planning on using 7 flags, the same as I've been doing at 50Y, but whether all seven are mine or not will depend on what I see once we're at the range and how many the others shooters sharing my benches are using. So long as the final count is 7 or more for each lane, I'll be happy.

Nice looking stock by the way. Who did you buy it through? As of right now I'm running with a 3" wide Aluminum Bench Block that's sloped to counter the angle of the forend and attaches to my Accessory Rail, the same as what Paul has done. But once this whole shoot'n match is over with I'm sure I'll want to do things up right, so will probably dive into what you did as a winter project, and what you have looks perfect.

I would expect to pay £250 for a reg over here from one of the custom people. Then I would be waiting for it to fail then I would be waiting for it to come back having been fixed. No I prefer the new tube option.

My MK3 is regulated but no more accurate than my sport (now relegated to bunny bashing). But the regged MK3s are dead to shoot with no flip where as the Sport does flip and needs a brake.
