This for all of you gunsmiths outthere.
I have a freind who would like me to install a new barrel on his A-Bolt,I have never had one apart before and wonder if anyone can tell me the Dimmensions of the barrel threads before I tell him I will do the job.If it turns out that they are metric then I am not willing to tackle the job, just too much trouble.
Thanks in advance,
Nick Loy

They are not metric... I know because I have barrelled several..

I think it was 20 tpi.. or 18.. ? You will know when you pull the barrel.. diameter is close to 1 inch...

Pulling the factory barrel can be iffy... I had one gall part way out and it tore all the threads out of the action... they always seem to be very tight threads... way tighter than I fit them...

A-bolts

I have worked on several of the A-Bolts.

DO NOT BOTHER TRYING TO PULL THE BARREL OFF THE STAINLESS STEEL MODELS! The chrome moly is ok.Chances are you will lose the threads in the reciever. I learned the hard way.If you still want the thread pattern I will find it for you in my notes .I think it is 1 x 18 or 1-20 tpi

If the risk of seizing is so great, why not cut the barrel off and bore the tenon out? The piece would most likely be out before you got close to the receiver. Just curious. Kenny

Out of the many stainless I have done only one seized... I still do them, I just tell the owner up front that if it seizes I will have to re thread the action slightly larger and it will cost a bit more...

Here are my threads :
A-BOLT STALKER 15/16X 20TPI
A-BOLT MEDALLION 1"X32TPI
Never had galling problems with cm or stainless.
Best of luck

I have never had a problem with any of the A bolts and I have done many of them, I always use a little heat from a heatgun first just tell their too hot to touch.
