I just finished m first DIY rifle build. This was my late uncles rifle and was a total basket case when it got it. The barrel was so rusted i couldnt even get a cleaning brush down it, and the stock looked like he had beaten a deer to death with it. I instlalled a new 20" ER Shaw barrel on it and chambered it in 243win, then reblued the action and barrel together for a perfect match. Then the stock was hand sanded for hours on end to remove the dings and gouges, then pillar bedded. Finished it with a light cherry stain and several coats of satin clear coat. I havnt done any load development yet but it already was shooting under MOA with factory loads, durring barrel break in. I know this is no turnbull resto but im very happy with the results, and i plan to give my father his brothers rifle for his birth day.

I would love to see a picture of the expression on your Dad's face when he opens it.

Amen Cal he is a good Son!

i presented the rifle to dad last night and he was speechless. at first he thought it was a new rifle untill he realy looked at it. He thought the rifle had dissapeared in the estate sale, but now he is refusing to take it for free. For now im not telling him what i have in it hoping he will just accept it, amazing how hard it is for a dad to accept it when a boy grows up to be able to do such things.
