I recently had some issues with my 10-60x March scope. I had to send it back to Japan twice to get everything back to the way it should be. Deon Optics Inc. was great. So were the Kelblys. When everything got sorted out, I had scrunched the tube and this is how it happened. I had bedded my rings for my Nightforce as I had lapped them multiple times and thought I had some movement in the rings. When I got the March, I took off the Nightforce and installed the March. I torqued the rings screws to 16 inch/lbs. Everything worked fine for about 7 matches but then I turned the side focus/parallax knob too far and it wouldn’t come back into focus. At this time, I was unaware that the tube had been scrunched but with the tight tolerances of the March the scrunching allowed a stem in the focus wheel to come out of its hole when I turned the knob too briskly.
The first time I sent the scope to Japan, I had it back in two weeks. They replaced all of the gouged dials in the focus unit and sent back some photos showing the damage, along with instructions about making sure my rings were in line with one another and to lap them before reinstalling the scope. That I did. Took it out to my shooting bench and fired three shots to line it up for the match the next day and all was well. That is until I got to the match! The match was a 100 meter match and the scope was out of focus. Turning the dial didn’t do a thing. Oh, was I disappointed. I still didn’t know what was causing the problem, yet. I had never had an issue with screwing up scopes before so I called Kelbly’s and got Jim. I explained all of the above and he was super. On his suggestion, I sent the scope to him so they could inspect it before sending it back over to Japan. That is when they found the crimp marks from the rings and figured that I needed a new tube. Ouch! I was dreading the thought of the repair cost. This wasn’t a warrantee thing. This was my blunder. I discussed getting new rings and starting fresh (versus lapping all the bedding out of the present rings) and Jim was going to send some free, no problem. These rings as you know are 90-100 dollars and he was willing to just give them to me. I must have come across some bummed talking with him!
Well, here is the good news. The scope has been returned good as new. Deon Optics replaced the tube and whatever else it needed and sent it back to Kelbly’s who sent it back to me. As far as I know, there is not going to be any charges for the repair. At least there hasn’t been any yet. The only cost that I have had to bear is the shipping to Japan. Oh, I did pay for the rings although I know the kind gesture from Jim was appreciated and will not be forgotten. Thanks to both the Kelblys and Deon Optics. Great product and great service.
