911 Calls

You don't think this is just a call for more money for police depts? Souns suspiciously like "pass the school funding levy to save the children" to me.

What's wrong with saving the children or saving anybody, when that's your primary job description? "To Protect and serve". Funding/manpower is a problem in Police Departments across the country. This guy has a legitimate complaint. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" He has effectively covered himself for complaints about slow response to 911 calls dont you think?

Absolutely.....When you got a mortgage to pay, mouths to feed and reputation to protect. It pays to CYA.

Sounds to me the guy is sick of the Government telling us what we can and can't do! When people as me what kind of gun they should have, I ask them if someone was to break-in to your house, would you shoot them? If they hesitate,or say I don't know! I say us a ball bat. you don't want a gun. Then call 911.

You're right Joe. He's also saying, I need manpower to effectively do the job I'm paid to do. Pretty Simple. Some Liberals and the press will always find other motives for this Sheriff's Comments.

What a Sheriff Wins

When you win an election for Sheriff, you generallly win the opportunity to figure out how the heck you are going to pay for your department. Mostly this is done by obtaining contracts for patrolling rural towns, and providing security for road construction crews. They do get some budget from the county for running the jail and delivering summons, but it ain't much. I lived for a while in Henry County, Georgia. The Sheriff there bought an old DC-3 and started smuggling drugs from his private fly-in subdivision. The voters took the policing away from the Sheriff and started a county police force. I-75 runs right through that county. The police figured out how to detect drug smugglers coming up from Florida. They made a fortune off confiscated cars and cash. This was about the richest police department I've seen, and it was a good one. The Sheriff just missed the boat on that one. Profiling? What's that?
