I only had about 1/8 pound of lot # 4736. With this limited amount, I decided the first thing in order was to see if I can get any velocity out of it. The test gun specs are: 30-30 case, Russian primer, Bartlein 23" barrel, 118gr. 9 ogive Cheek bullets seated .010" into lands. Maximum charge weight is around 42gr based on case capacity. Velocities are for a 3 shot average.
41.0 gr - 3049 fps
42.0 gr - 3106 fps
So far this test only proves that this powder will work in the 30-30, but only low to mid nodes can be used. The truley upper nodes in the 30-30 are over 3200 fps. The 30x47 would make better use of this slower burn rate. One the other end of the scale, I see no practical use for this powder in the 30BR in short range BR. I just can't see it making decent velocity.
If I have enough powder left to shoot 3 or 4 groups, I will post the results later. All you HBR shooters out there should consider testing this powder since your case capacity is even better suited for this burn rate.
