8208 XBR burn rate change?

I have heard from more than one source that the burn rate of 8208 XBR was going to be faster in the upcoming lots. I played with a small amount of this stuff just to see if I might be interested in purchasing some. The lot I tested (4736), while it was barley fast enough to make 3100 fps in the 30-30, could still be better if it was slightly faster. When I heard the news of the hotter lots, I was looking forward to testing again.

So here's the question. Where did this information of hotter lots come from? I called Hodgdon yesterday to confirm the lot number of the newer and faster version of 8208, and a guy named Mike told me he has no news of a faster lot. He went on to say that the new 8208 has been finalized for some time, and that all future lots must be within 3% of their test lot in velocity, pressure, and density.

Can anyone tell me the real story, and who it comes from?

Contact Ron Reiber at Hodgdons. He has the definate answer
I doubt it will change very much only slight variations from lot to lot.
So far it's a mixed bag on results. Some can get it to really shoot well others just so so.

The lot your playing with (4736) is the test lot of 8208, and the most sought after lot to date, as far as i know. I would be extremely happy if current or future lots would shoot and print like the test lot (4736). I havent given up on the 8208 just yet, but i am about out of the powder i have (4736). If i cant get the results with future lots like i am currently getting with the 4736 lot i will be done with it. I have tried a couple other early lots with mixed results. I havent tried anything more current. I have now been playing with another secrete powder( LOL!!!) with good results, so the 8208 may just sit on the shelf for a while! Lee

Well, I'm here in Colorado now, so expect to see me at the match on the 2nd and 3rd. As far as the XBR powder is concerned, I didn't have enough to bring, but have some on the way for later matches. My limited testing does show promise, but with only one group fired in the mid one range ( I only fired a total of one group), it's not like I haven't seen this from lots of powders. As far as my rear bag is concerned, it may or may not be legal, but I'm prepared to shoot in a legal form by modifying if necessary.

Be easy on me at the match. I haven't been able to shoot a group under .082" at a registered match all year:) On a more serious note, instead of counting how many ones I shoot in an agg. I've been trying to shoot at least one group under a three. Could I shoot any worse?

Well Michael, if you would shoot something other than that thutty thutty with them old flat nosed boolets you might win some wood. lol.
