has anyone tried new or old 8208 in a 308 win ?
after seeing imr's listing for 308 and 8208, i tried some slow lot oem 8208 with 135 bibs in a 308 win br.
while i thought i statred low, my starting load was 3000 fps...more than i had been shooting with n140.
while they were faster than the n140 loads, i had no extraction issues. the gun is a custom ar10 with a 1/15 twist kreiger. ar's have no real "cam" when opening the bolt...it is normally done with 16,000 plus psi! with no gas system one must open the bolt by hand...and it can be an issue. with n140 and only 2900 fps i have a few issues with opening the bolt, if i go over they stick.
1/2 grain steps
so why was i able to go to 3230fps with no (noticiable)issues....?
rate of pressure change ??
( at the next step 46gr, first shot was fine, second "blanked" a primer. fully extruded into the firing pin hole...so i stopped there. no signs of impending doom, previous primers were flat, with a slight radius.)
ohh and no "br groups" at these speeds...i did have wind flags out, but the predicted 5 mph was more like 10 with higher gusts...and i'm not a good wind reader.....so i will back up and try again.
