I'm getting ready to send off my rem 700 in 7mm rem mag to have it made into a tack driver. Standard barrel length is 26" do you think a 26 1/2" barrel will have any benefits over standard length? I'm putting a #7 Shilen standard varmint barrel on it.

Second question, I neck size my cases, how do I set up my dies to just bump the shoulder back so I don't have chambering issues after a few times of shooting the cases? Is there a special die?

from a guy with four 7mm rem mags, I think the right length is 26 in + a brake!!, I neck size also but after the third firing I full length size, never have problems either, got wall full of nice bucks with 150gr Sierra GameKings and 65grs of H4831SC over a fed #215 seated .005 off the lands

26 inches to 26.5 inches... probably 10 or 15 feet per second... ?

7 Mags like to be loaded hot for accuracy...

You may be full length sizing more than you think. I use a Forester/Bonanza neck sizer to bump the shoulders with.

bbl lenght 26 vs. 26.5

For all practical purposes your bullet will be 1/2 inch closer to the target when it leaves the muzzle.
