One of my F /Tr rifles is built on a Rem. 722. I've been working on heavy bullet load development, and have been pushing pressures pretty hard. The last range trip, the rifle stopped extracting some of the time. When I checked the bolt face, the extractor is still there, but the ejector looks slightly peaned, and I'm thinking that if it is peaned, it might not sit quite flush w/ the bolt face, thereby spacing the base of the case off the face just enough to make the extractor not get a possitive bite ont he rim. Does this make sense?
I realize extractors are a touchy business w/ the 722. I actually expected mine to be gone when I checked, but it's still there. Maybe my best bet is to remove the ejector, fill the hole, and install a sako extractor?
I guess the other option is to order a new oversized bolt from PTG and have it fit to the action, but I'm wondering about cost/benifit between the two options. The rifle shoots much better than it has any right to.
