700 Stock Question

I have recently finished putting together my first barreled action. It is a varmint rig, 700 Action and a Heavy Shilen Barrel chambered in a 243.
I am looking for a stock that would be appropriate for this set up. Something with about a 2.5 in forearm that would shoot of bags or a bi-pod. I want to do my own pillar and bed job.
Since I glued a fowler in, I have been looking for a stock that could be used for a single shot. I have looked at Boyds Laminate stocks but their varmint model only comes in BDL. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find a reasonably priced stock to complete this project?? Thanks.

Rem. 700 stock

mpatti: I just recieved a "Bell & Carlson Medalist' stock for one of my Savages. Very impressed with the quality ( cannot find any defects), fit ( barreled receiver dropped-in), price ( $213 delivered). "Shooters Discount" (601)730-4867, Summit MS. A lot of info on bellandcarlson.com. They offer a lot of models for the Rem.700. Would not hesitate to buy another.

Wooden 40X stock

My favorite for this type of stock is the wooden 40X Range Master single shot stock----if you can find one in good condition.

The center fire and rim fire versions usually have the standard SA action screw hole spacing but I've talked to some folks who found rim fire stocks with different hole spacing. I've never seen different hole spacing though.

You might also have to open the barrel channel for heavier barrels. You'll also need an ADL style trigger guard.

These stocks are very easy to shoot and I've found some very nice ones for under $100.

Good luck.
