Gents,

I was just wondering what weight firing pin spring most of you would
use for a 6 Br. ? Im running a factory spring at the moment but I could
use a lighter bolt lift in the rapids (Im a highpower shooter).

If possible could the cocking surface on the bolt body be recut ??

Just some random thoughts here.

Thanks for any thoughts in the matter.

The cocking ramp can be contoured to decrease bolt lift effort. I also find that many times the nose of the cocking piece that rides the ramp will have some vertical machining marks left from manufacture. Use a whet stone or similar making sure to keep the factory shape.

Next make sure you have as much contact area as possible on the bolt nose to cocking ramp interface. I just put a new BR action into use and it was only touching on the very innermost edge of the cocking ramp. Only about .020" of contact. By carefully stoning the ramp I got a lot more contact area and noticably reduced cocking effort. I also keep this area well greased during a match.

Next you can work on the 'handoff timing' to decrease the bolt closing effort. Made a big difference on a 40x I just reworked. Make that BIG difference.

A longer bolt handle is another thing I always add.

My 40x stills sucks when opening on a fired case. I want to make a full circle mandrel that will allow me to lap and polish the locking lug abutments in the receiver. I want to make them super smooth. This should be the last touch [ well I hope anyway ].

I doubt my Remingtons will ever be as smooth as my Vipers but it doesn't hurt to try and improve them. The handoff timing mod has made the most improvement in feel so far. The bolt closing is now as good as a Viper so next I need to get the bolt opening fixed.

Thx

Thanks for the info you answered one of my questions completely.
