It was stated in another post that many 700's have been converted to PPC without changing out the extractor....

???

Mine are all changed to sliders.... unnecessary?? Does the .473 700 bf work as-is?

From what I have been able to deduce I think it requires the riveted extractor 'bent' in a bit more... I haven't seen one.

My .243 700 Remington was rebarreled to 7.62X39 (same head size) 10 years ago, with no modification to the extractor. Never had a problem with it.

How about a picture of one of those sliders on a Remington Bolt.

Thanks Gary

I got along quite well in the beginning with a rem extractor which
was riveted. It could be pulled out slightly and never a problem. The newer ones ( snap in and can be somewhat contempable. Some aren't real reliable
on the case size they were made for, in a factory bolt. it is common to find them pushed back to far or stuck.

By "slider" I'm referring to the AR-15 style conversion and in truth only two of mine are (were) "sliders" as I've had several Sako style too. Coned nose are sliders???? can't remember and too lazy to go out to the shop. I'll check tomorrow. I just don't shoot 700's much any more.... and have sold off all but a few.

They were all installed in an attempt to "upgrade" from 700 factory style..... or, in two cases, because "the boltface was so far out of whack that to clean it up... etc etc."

I'm intrigued by the idea that you can just stuff a PPC barrel on an unmodified Rem 700 bolt.... I had no idea, having been told for 20yrs that it's necessary to change out the bolt for PPC.

I believe the bolt alteration was originally done so you could keep more of the weak (older) PPC case in the chamber. The original 700 bolt nose stuck out to far for that.

I thought by slider you meant sliding plate such as a Panda or Savage and I was interested in seeing how that was done.

Thanks Gary

With my Savage bolt head the factory extractor would extract the Russian case 100% of the time but sometimes the case would fall out of the bolt head before it was fully to the rear. I put in a custom SSS extractor that solved the problem.

On the radius the case head difference is only app .015".
