i took mine out of the stock and i know there must be a trick
to getting the spring to fit back in, this thing's driving me nuts
can someone tell me how to put this back in? thanks. tom
it wants to kick out of place when i'm putting the stock back on.
it's a .222 sporter i think made in '63.

With mag box inserted & tab screw installed in the bottom of the action.
Slide mag spring through tabs on bottom of follower.

With action inverted install follower/spring into mag box.
Slip stock down onto action, aligning recoil lug.

Insert trigger guard into inlet.

Install 3 action screws-
1/4"-28tpi X 3/4" length is front action screw.
#8-36tpiX1.5" length is front trigger guard screw(do not overtighten).
1/4"-28tpi X 1.5" length is rear trigger guard screw.

when i try

to put everything back together the spring bottom kicks out
of the box i've thought about taping it to the stock then lowering
the action and magazine well down on it.

On an ADL the spring and follower can be put in the mag cut in the stock and the barrelled action just set down on top of it. The mag box should stick into the bottom of the receiver so that it can just slide down over the follower. You'll probably have to guide the follower into the bottom of the mag box with a finger.

Alternatively turn the barrelled action upside down with the follower and spring dropped into the mag box. Then put the stock on the metal upside down.

If you don't have something to hold the stock while it's going together, and only have the standard two hands it might require someone to hold the stock while it's all going back together.

thanks larry i tried that

i think what happened is someone in the past strecthed the spring some
for more tension and now it's being a pain to get back in right. i'll get it
eventually, i just thought maybe there was some gunsmith trick to getting
it back in. how many times a fought with something then read on here the
easy way and all you can do is go duh. later tom.

I have a new stainless Rem. LV in .221 that is in an ADL type stock. When I was reinstalling the stock the magazine spring was extremely hard to get in without shifting position. My final solution was to tie the spring and follower together with string, spring compressed and the knot on top of the follower.
I then threaded the string through the magazine opening and pulled the assembly up into the magazine box and taped the string to the top of the action. I then installed the stock, untied the knot and worked the follower up and down while pulling the string out. A real pain but it worked for me.

i'll probably end up doing something like

that put using a thin cable tie instead then just clip it off and pull it out.
thanks. i'll let you know. i've got to free float and bed it first anyway.

The thin cable tie sounds like a better idea, I will try it next time.
