Need some help, have a new custom 7 X 300 Weatherby Magnum and am looking for reload data. Can anyone out there help me? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Geary

Is that for a 10" TC Encore pistol or a 30" target rifle? Are you shooting 100 grain Barnes solids or 180 grain Berger VLDs? Are you punching varmints at 500 yards or paper at a mile? Do you care about barrel life? Do you like Moly? I'm just pointing out that ther are a wide range of "loads" depending on your particular firearm and application.

The 7mm-300 Wby has one grain more case capacity than a 7mm STW and 3000 psi lower max pressure than a 7mm STW. The 300 Wby case is .026" shorter . At least for staring loads and powder selection you can use 7mm STW load data. I'd keep the max charge weights about 3% lower than for the published 7mm STW max loads.

The 7-300 WBY was designed in 1958 by a Mifflinburg, PA gunsmith named Howard Wolfe. It was first reported by Robert Hutton of The Guns & Ammo Magazine Tech Staff in ‘61 & ‘62.

In 1970 Mary Louise DeVito of Williamsport, PA used this caliber to shoot a 1000yrd World Record of 7 11/16 inches. Her load was a 168gr Sierra Matchking bullet with 87gr of H570, Fed 215 primer. Velocity for this load was listed at 3254fps. The rifle, built by Howard, was FN400 Benchrest Action w/ a 30” Hart Stainless Steel 1 ¼” dia bbl with 1-9” twist.

I talked with Howard several times and here are his recommended starting suggestions.
160gr bullets IMR 7828 76-78gr
168gr bullets IMR 7828 76-78gr
162 gr Hornady BTSP H1000 76-80gr
H870 85-86gr
IMR 5010 85-86gr

Howard recommended seating the bullets .009-.017 from the rifling.
Prefered bullet weights are 160-175gr. DO NOT USE ANYTHING LESS THAN 150GR PER HOWARD. Barrel life will be GREATLY reduced if you use light bullets.

My rifle is a custom built rifle. Interarms Mark X action, Douglas Premium Air Gauged Barrel. Custom stock. Nikon 4-12x50 Buckmaster Scope. A pic of my rifle can be seen at:

Here are some of my personal loads. If you use any of these start a few grains lower and work up for safety.

Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip (bc .493)
Reloader 19 73.0gr
CCI 250 Primer
Rem Case
Velocity (measured) 3167fps

RL 19 70gr
Velocity 3072fps
RL 19 71gr
Velocity 3082.4fps
RL 19 72gr
Velocity 3133fps

Sierra 168gr Matchking
H1000 76gr
Fed 215 primer
Rem Case (Nickle plated cases were used here. I do not recommend Nickle cases as case life is not very good)
Group for this load was 1.1” at 200yrds.

Hornady 162gr BTSP
IMR 5010 83gr
CCI 250 primer
.511” @ 100yrds

H870 85.5gr
CCI 250
.561” @ 100yrds

I was fortunate to get those groups at 100 yards. Howard highly recommended not wasting my time shooting for groups at 100 yards. The bullets are still not stabilized at this distance. 200 yards is minimum recommended for group sizes.

Against Howard’s recommendations I loaded some 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and achieved 3421fps using 77gr of IMR 7828 with Fed 215 primers. If you want to shoot such a light bullet. Find your load and shoot them sparingly or you will be replacing your barrel LONG before you want to.

Hope this information helps you .
