Summer is here for sure now ... It was a little hot, maybe touched 90F while we were shooting, but as usual, it was "breezy". The winds switched back and forth from West to East, and even swapped from South to North a number of times, getting stronger, but a little less gusty as the day progressed.

Honestly, had any experienced gunner just looked at the conditions and were asked the chances of ANY sub-moa targets being fired with an airgun that day he might have been dubious.

I had my new windflag out, and though its a bit unconventional and "dippy", I found it a very good indicator of a change that might give a vertical shift to my shots ... Nobody else seemed to be able to take it serious, to my pleasure!

Ok, to come clean, BESIDES the new windflag out on the range, I had a little American flag under my NEW AMERICAN barrel, and boy was it humming along! I WAS studying the flags harder yesterday, but my hot taper-lapped stainless steel barrel was sure making it easier for me to put em where I needed em! I fired the only groups "in the teens" (a .18 and a .19) of the day, and am pleased as punch to say I'm now shooting a totally American-made gun, and that its first time out with the barrel that completes it, and its already a winner!

Tim McMurray and Matt Kellerman had also hastily jammed the new MAC1/BR tubes into their guns, but had zero shots downrange on them when they started sighting in.

Competition was very close, with only ten thousandths of an inch separating the average scores of the first three runners-up, but look out when these guys (including Matt Saenz) get their new Mac1/BR rifles sorted ... I have a feeling things are heating up!

Well, not eggzakly recordbreaking, but the high score IS the highest on this "down in the valley course" by the slimmest of margins, as in March, just a few months go, Roger L. and I TIED with identical scores of .490" aggregate. As I looked at the old scores, ad my score of Sunday, I realized the new score didn't add up, and, on redoing it, I ended up with .489", and I'm taking it!

Still, the best all-time score is still held by Matt Saenz, with a fantastic .439", fired last year from the upstairs course (garage firing). The upstairs course was usually more windy, but it didnt switch and gust so quickly.

Maybe one time we can have a nightime shoot, and shoot some really stupendous scores .... or shoot indoors ..... or, well, naah!

I was wondering just how this new stainless barrel would do at longer ranges, and tried it this afternoon around 7:20pm, when the wind had died down some. I found a path I could shoot from my garage workbench up out to some rocks past 100 yards and gave it a try. Four five-shot groups from 116 yards averaged well under one moa, with one group being a half moa! I have a pic of the target and a bit of talk about the barrel in a thread on my forum here:
