6ppc rework

I have a Bat SV LP RB RE in LV and want to make some changes
Now I have a .270 neck and want to recut the chamber neck smaller and would like some suggestions
My smith has a .262 and .265 reamer
I currently have the ejector fitted, which does not work well as my bolt face is .308 not PPC.
So I am considering removing it anyway

What are the options for my action?
I want a thinner neck so how thin can I go with an ejector fitted?
If I remove the ejector how best to clear the action in short time?
Is the longer actions preferred for 'non ejector' so you can pull the bolt right back, load a new case in front, then remove the fired case as the bolt closes
Do any of you guys use ejectors with the short SV actions?
Just trying to understand more about what I have and what can and can not be done.
Thanks
Jim

that is R/L/R with the far front ejection port. I use a .262 neck. It is my pride and joy. As far as ejection, I have not seen a single BAT that did not have to have the spring tinkered with. I had to cut 2 coils off my spring, I have seen a number of shooters replace theirs completely with a different spring.

I assume you're worried about digging thinned necks upon extraction? If so, just put a padded towel on the bench neck to the port. As for the cycling, I think a lot of guys run 0.262" with ejectors and the brass does fine when exiting.

I have a BAT S dual port .262 NK with an ejector. As Lee related, I use a towel as a pad for spent brass. To date, I've not dinged a single neck. But, I did buy this rifle used and it's possible that the ejector spring has been modified.

Ok so i have been mis informed again, i have been told many times that the 262 necks bend hitting the action on exit.
If i can run the .262 neck and an ejector,
will this work with a 308 bolt face?
currently if you cycle the bolt anything less than fast, the case stays in the action. As the fired case clears the chamber and bumps onto the side of the action, it drops off the bolt face
is it possible to get reliable ejection with the 308 bolt face?
If not, can my bolt face be bushed with defcon or similar to reduce the bolt face diameter?
thanks again

I have an action with a .308 bolt face and it came with a PPC extractor as well. I shot PPC with the .308 extractor and it worked every time. I guess I'm saying that a .308 extractor will work on PPC but if not, a PPC extractor can be easily made. If that ain't right, I'm betting that somebody will say so....and I yield to any real knowledge for sure.

Truth is, I'm not at all positive that the action doesn't have the PPC extractor installed rather than the .308 extractor...but I don't think so. I just liked to shoot and leave that kind of stuff to the gunsmiths. I did put a 30BR barrel on the action and don't remember changing the extractor.

Why not .270"?

About 8 years ago I moved from 262 to 270 necks in all my barrels.

It was the best move I ever made.

Heaps easier to neck turn in 1 pass, and you can drop them on the neck and not ruin the case!

Also, you do not need to size the neck as much to maintain tension, so cases last much longer.

I would not even consider any other ND.

My thoughts only.

Rob.
