6PPC experiences with Benchmark powder?

I spent a little time at the range yesterday shooting my 6PPC, and on a whim, I worked with a scrap of Benchmark powder. Based on previous experience, it measures pretty well, and based on my little trial, it shoots pretty well in a 6PPC. Later today, when I clean the barrel, I should find out more about how dirty it is, but if memory serves, it should not be a problem. Most of the pound was burned behind 40 gr. bullets in one of my .222s. With the temperature in the mid 60s, and 48% humidity, the load that took care of the vertical was 50 1/2 clicks, which turned out to be 29.5 gr., when I weighted it this morning. I for got to mention earlier, I did all my work with Federal match primers. I can't see that there is much wrong with this powder for a 6PPC. What have your experiences been?

Boyd, I shot benchmark in a 6ppc a few years ago. It shot ok in a couple of barrels if you kept the speed down to 3100 fps. that is the same result a friend of mine
obtained. If you got the speed up for the powder to burn clean, the groups opened up. Rogina

Boyd, J.D. Denoff shot Benchmark regularly in the SER group matches -- at least a few years ago. Believe that was before there were 2 Benchmark powders? He had pretty good success with it.

Anyway, you could email him. He is, rather famously, no longer on BR Central...
