I am fixing to start ordering parts for my gun. It will be a pierce action 28" broughton barrel Heavey varmit spotrter 1-8" jewell trigger with top saftey.

My questions are pierce rings tall enough for a 56 mm nightforce. And who makes a good varmit style walnut stock?

Suggestions would be great thanks

Spark, re: rings and scope mounting, I recommend you understand the math. Learn to measure. Call Pierce and ask them. If you learn why stuff works rather than just letting others tell you what to do, then you'll be able to pass on valuable knowledge. :eek:

As to the stock, walnut looks great -- if you're into wood/old school -- but will generally be more prone to warp (which can contribute to point of impact change) as humidity changes, etc. Laminated wood, fiberglass, and aluminum stocks are thus popular alternatives. Just a thought... :cool:

Re. Bill Ohio if I wanted a stupid reply about measuring I would have went to some other forum but I came here to post because the other kind people that post info that are not smart***'s. Ther is alot to to be learned here if I had all my parts I could do some measuring but I don't.

So If anybody else has info or used or seen I would really like to here from you

I went to Pierce's web site, looking for ring height dimensions, and did not find any. What I did find was his email address. That is probably the best route to the answer that you are looking for.

Here is one of the pics I have of the Pierce action with his rings attached looks to have a lot of room for the big objective of the Nightforce. This picture has the 1" rings though, Nightforce is the 30mm. Center of the ring is center of ring regardless of Odjective size and 56mm Objective is still 56mm regardless of tube diameter. But call John or Jim they can tell you what you need. That action is Bedded into a Brown Precision Stock.

I don't have a set of those rings to measure but
Here is some of the math.
56mm = 2.2047244 inches
Divide that by 2
2.2047244 / 2 = 1.1023622
When you find out the height of the center of the ring just compare it to the results above.
You may also take into account if your barrel has some taper to it which might give a a smidgen more leeway.

You may be able to find a laminated walnut stock from Richards

Also check out accurate innovations.

If you didn't like Bill's answer you could just say. "Thanks for that Bill. Thats great advice but I wonder if anybody knows the height of those rings? I don't have a set to measure."
That way nobody will think you are an a## for calling someone else a name and you will get what you need.
