6mmBR Norma Die Question

I have been out of accurate rifle shooting for some years and have not kept up with equipment....so I have to ask...

I am going to get or build a rifle in 6mm BR for paper punching and maybe a little hunting....I had the Wilson dies and arbor press years ago and they worked great...now I see that Redding has competition dies but they are a little more per die...

Are the Redding dies significantly better than the Wilson's or just a very nice die for a single stage press...

I really liked the ability to take the Wilson set-up to the range and make changes while I tested..

Any thoughts appreciated...

I've been using the Wilson Seater with the Sinclair Arbor Press and the Redding Type "S" Small Base Die for FL sizing my 6mmBR brass. I started out using the Redding Body Die but found I would get a click at the top of my bolt lift after two or three firings. I've never been able to neck size only. If one had a FL Die w/o bushings and the neck honed out to the desired size, I think that would trump the Redding "S" Die. I also have used / owned the Redding Comp Seat Dies, they're good dies but, I prefer the Wilson set up to those.

Thank you

that is good information..

I will probably have a Shilen barrel and I hope it will allow me to eliminate full length sizing for seveal firing....after I do resize I will just treat the brass as a fire forming and go from there...if everything works as planned..which it never did when I shot a little...

I'm really leaning toward the Wilson combo from Sinclair which is what I had years ago...I just have no experience with the newer dies and don't want to pass up on a better system...

I think it's more common now for the point blank guys to FL size than before. I've seen absolutly no ill effects of FL sizing my 6BR brass and FL everything now.

Interesting

I have been doing lots of reading in the past few minutes and seems that a Harrell's custom die and a Wilson seater may be the answer for me...

I can just size a batch of brass at home and do my other changes at the range with the Wilson dies and other necessary items...

Does this make sense to anyone???

The low buck way to size at the range is to buy the cheap Lee C press for just over $20. With the Harrell's die there is very little effort required to size the case so you don't have to worry about the press deflecting.

The Harrell's die does use std wilson or redding bushings.

Yes it is a bushing die. Mail them a couple of fired cases, they will pick one that is closest to your chamber and also send a headspace gauge.

Seem like real good ppl.
