6mm dasher bullet question

I just got my 6 dasher back from the smith this week and all looks good so far. We had dave kiff make the reamer and we had it made with 104 free bore, for the 105vld's. My barrel is an 8.5 twist. this combo is showing some good results, but i only have 20 rounds down the tube thus far. So it is really to early to tell. I am sure this will be a great combo though. Ok, I am also hoping i can shoot the 88gr FB berger bullets for 100 yard shooting. Do you see any reason why this combo wouldnt work, with the free bore the way it is, and the 8.5 twist? The only concern my smith has is concerning donuts. If donuts start to form the bearing surface of the 88gr bergers could be affected. I do not see any trace of donuts at this point and the 88gr bullets drop free into a fired case. The way i understand it, is that donuts may not start to form until 4 firings or so. Do any of you fellas think i will have any trouble with the 88's and what can i do to keep donuts from forming. Thanks Lee

Lee;
Don't worry about being in over your head. Anybody that tells you he/she has never been in over their head is fibbing or they have never done anything new. As far as worrying about the donuts in a 6BR case with a .104 freebore it may be a problem with the 105 gr. bullets but the 8 is on a shorter jacket(I think) and should not be a problem. Since you don't say if this is a tight necked chamber I am assuming it is not.If you have seating problems and you think the cases are donuted cut it out with a Wilson neck reamer. If you want to talk about seating depths drop me a PM and we will have a look.

Lee,
I'd be interested in hearing how that 8.5-tw. bbl. handles 105s when you get around to trying them. None of my 6mm bbls. are slower than a straight 8-tw.

BTW, my PTG Dasher reamer has .158" freebore, which doesn't leave much neck on the bullets when VLDs are seated jammed. I've thought about sending the reamer back to Dave to have him grind the FB a bit shorter, but since my .236" bore Kriegers shoot Lapua 105s at least as good as either Berger or JLK 105VLDs, I haven't followed through with it.

The 158 free bore is interesting. Dave recommended the 104 free bore to us for shooting the 105 vld bullets. I shot the 8.5 twist brux barrel yesterday a little bit. I dint shoot it much but i blew out some brass and then shot a couple of loads i through together with varget and the 105. Everything is looking real good so far. The ff loads shot a 4 shot group in the 2's and 33gr of varget 7thou into the lands shot a 3 shot group that went .090. I shot another 3 shot group with 32.5gr of varget 15 thou into the land and it was around .450. Funny thing yesterday. I got to the match we had and i went to get the cash out of my console in the truck and my money want there. I had to borrow money from my buddy to shoot. I just though i misplaced it or gave it to the pizza lady as a tip bt mistake. anyway this morning i went to the truck to get the rest of my gear out and i was ripped off again. They took some money orders i had in there for the mail today and they stole my box off ff brass. among a few other things. I bought some already formed brass from a member here a while back so i was sitting pretty good. Its all gone now. They took my tri-pod legs one log book a rear bag and some 22br ammo i had back there. they money orders were worth about 350 bucks. Anyway its my fault for being so trusting. Now i will have to form all my brass for this rifle so it will be a while before i can work some more loads. I had about 70 pieces of formed brass for the rifle. Bummer!!!
I also wanted to look a little closer at the brass i shot the 090 group with. the velocity was 3150. I think thats about the fastest you would want to push them. I didnt see any signs of pressure at the range except for one case looked a little shinny. My brass is probably in the ditch about now so i really dont know. Thanks Lee
