I know this may start a uproar, but which should a man go with...6br... or 30br for 100p600yrd. Overall. Like the 30br but the 6brs have a great reputation.

I shot a gong once with my 6ppc at 650 yards with 68 grain BT's. Barely flaked the paint off! A 30 br wouldn't do much better. A fast twist 6br can easily get you to 600 yards and will shoot well at closer ranges too. It's a simple choice......

I never shot a bong,I mean gong @ 650yds, but I have shot a couple registered 600 yd matches recently (last year) @ Oak Ridge, TN. with a 30br, just because I could. I was using a 17 twist barrel, a case full of H4198, wolf primers, and some homemade 118gr flat base bullets, don't know about flaking the paint @ 600yds but shooting a group I do know about. Check out the results for 24 July 2010 and 25 Sept. 2010 @ IBS site, long range, and you'll see a sub 2'' group @ each match. Not bad for flaking paint. And this info is from someone who shoots both a 6ppc and a 30br.

Tater, if you want to shoot score and a little long range = 600 yds go for the 30br, it also shoots good groups @ short range, but the recoil is a bit much. If you mostly want to shoot long range then go with the 6br, just my opinion.

I agree with Dan, if you are going to shoot mostly short range score and a little long range go with the 30br. If you will be mainly shooting long range the 6br will fill the bill better. Steve

Actually, my 6ppc shot a pretty decent group at 650 when the wind got steady. I was quite surprised. But from a man who own both the 6ppc and several 6br fast twists, it would be no contest which would win in rougher conditions. And Exbal shows that the 30 br only saves about 6" of wind drift at 600 yards over the 6ppc. That still puts it near 40" of drift in a 10 mph crosswind at that range which is not exactly what I would call "impressive". There's just no way a thutty with a bc in the thutty's can compete with a 6mm with a bc in the .5 range when it comes to drift at longer ranges. The choice is still clear............

Yup Mike E., glad I'm on the wagon.
