6.5x47L

A friend of mine is getting a 6.5x47L built. It is getting time to make some decisions. He wants to go with a no turn neck. What is the ave. thickness of the Lapua brass? What are you guys shooting for necks?

Thanks,
Tod

.012, .267 finished round in a 269 chamber.I just ordered some 6xc brass and some 22-250. I want to try a large primer vs. the small primer in the 6x47. I wouldn't bother but I'm running out of small rifle primers. The suppliers all say the same thing "Maybe June". Anyway, good luck with the neck.

I think you are talking about the 6-6.5x47. If not, I bet you do turn your necks.....really really thin. :D

Your right! I am talking about the 6x47 Lapua. I guess I should read more slowly, sorry.

Vinney,
Keep us posted on your results with the large rifle primer. Preston Pritchett of Surgeon Rifles and I were talking about trying this at a shoot a few days ago. I had to ream my flash holes out on the Lapua to get my 6-6.5x47 to shoot with any consistancy. I would like to get away from the small primer but only if I could get better results with large rifle primers.
I have since rechambered the barrel to 6x284 but am going to try the 6-6.5x47 again when I rebarrel.
I have a 6.5x47 reamer but I couldn't get the velocity that everyone else was getting without showing high pressure signs. But in all honesty I think I should have tried it with a different barrel before giving up.

Thanks.
Larry

You got it!

.293 is a no turn neck for the 6.5x47, using a .288 bushing you will get a loaded round of .290 plus or minus .0005 depending on bullet diameter. Some bullets are .2635, most are .264, and the Carterocios are .2644-.2649.
