I'm soon to get a 6.5x47 lapua and em now thinking about f-class ,ok the cart is in front of the horse but are there any sugestions forgive my spelling john59

John,

That's a nice little cartridge there.

Conventional wisdom is that you need at least 2950 fps with 140/142s to be competitive with the pros like Larry B & the Lapua case is stopped at about 2850 fps. I haven't used one myself, but friends who have have mixed results with them. One shoots (shot yesterday latest) very nice 1000 yards light gun bench groups with his. It even shot well with the lighter projectiles, but bench technique is vastly different from F class. Anther who does shoot F class couldn't get his loaded into an accuracy window before he started expanding primer pockets with too heavy loads of the wrong powder. A third has upgraded his to the improved chambering which was enough to get him competitive at the local State championships last month.

It gets round to what distances you're liable to be shooting. It would be a fine choice up to 600 yards & a damn good calibre to teach you wind judgement & loading skills beyond that. Who knows, you might just get yours singing with that magic load.

John- had to walk the dog, realistically i will not get much opportunity a 1000yds but i'm told that with the 123's pushed to the max with lapua brass i can probably get 3000+ fps. Will it be accurate who knows john

6.5x47

John: OK I know there light but are they to light to go past 600yds. remember You have a newbie hear John59

Sorry. I meant they were the ones he tried out for accuracy at 1000 yards, after he shot the 142s in competition. They grouped OK, but you should be aware that they will suffer more with wind changes than the bigger pills do, that is, the you'll be pushed around more off centre with wind changes.

If you judge the wind right, it isn't an issue. If you don't, there is more fudge factor with the 142s. Most of us end up judging the wind wrong, some more often than others.
