6.5x284 barrel length

I am just about ready to order my barrel it will be a 6.5x284. so the caliber is 6.5 with a 8 1/2 twist. either in 1 1/4" straight or 1 1/4" for 5 " and tapers to .900 at the muzzle. need to make a decision on barrel length, is 30" sufficient. can get up to 32" any comments on the barrel contour & length.

30" barrel works great. 4831sc normally is the go to powder. If you ever cut it off and set it back so it is 28" or so, give 4350 a try at that length.

Hey Chet, I did just what Joe Duck said, and it worked great. As for the taper, it depends on what you plan to do with it. A 30" straight 1 and 1/4 bbl can be a pain in some places. good luck, lightman

Last one I got was a 32" that way when you get to some where around 800 rounds you can set it back and still have plenty of barrel length left.
The two go to powders would be 4350 and 4831sc. I have had better luck with the 4831sc in the longer barrels. But then that is just my experience.
